Love and the Law of Conservation of Energy

The first law of thermodynamics is the conservation of energy: Energy cannot be increased or destroyed.

This is the same idea as the law of conservation of matter: we can only change the form of matter, but we can’t create or destroy matter.

A campfire changes the form of wood, but does not reduce matter, or increase energy.

These scientific principles presume that our universe, our understanding of physical existence, is a closed system. If the universe is not a closed system, new energy or matter would have to be introduced from an outside, already existing source. Thus, the laws still apply: no newly created matter, no newly created energy.

Whence then did matter and energy come?

Science says the “big bang”.

The idea is that all matter was bound in a tiny space, and exploded outward.

The “Big Bang”

OK, but that does not answer from where that matter, or the energy that created the outward explosion, came. The “Big Bang” theory breaks the law of conservation of energy and skips the creation of matter.

Regarding the creation of energy, a thought hit me today: What about Love?

Love is energy directed away from itself.

Science’s “Big Bang” assumes a closed system, But what if we could elect to add to that system?

What if, by giving ourselves away, the net energy in the system was increased?

We know that when we are self serving we transfer energy from others to ourselves.

We know that a zero sum view of the world lends toward a self serving approach to life.

But what about electing to be “other serving”?

What happens to the net energy in the system when we give our energy away? When we love?

Perhaps the great invitation is the invitation to contribute to the overall energy in all of creation by electively adding to it through our decision to love.

The Universe

Two people have the exact same amount of time every day.

How we spend that time makes the difference.

If we throw away our day getting nothing done, or at least nothing done for others, we are stuck in the zero sum world.

But if we elect to give our energy to thinking, praying, working, building, doing for others, what happens to the total energy in the system?

Love is the key to all things including creation itself.

Love is the energy creator. Love is the ultimate creator. Love is the calling. Love is the answer.

Love is a choice.

What if we could choose to love, and literally participate in the further creation of energy.

This changes everything. Choose to love. Elect to Love. Change everything, starting with yourself.
